Deutsche Bank Plans Cryptocurrency Custody Service in 2026
[Publication Date]
Germany’s largest bank, Deutsche Bank, is planning to launch a cryptocurrency custody service for its clients next year, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Collaboration and Development
Bloomberg reported that Deutsche Bank intends to launch the digital asset custody service in collaboration with technology division of Austrian crypto exchange Bitpanda. The development will also involve input from Swiss technology provider Taurus, which receives backing from Deutsche Bank.
Ongoing Endeavors in Digital Assets
This represents another attempt by Deutsche Bank to offer crypto storage services following its 2020 announcement of similar ambitions. While plans were previously announced for crypto custody offerings in partnership with Taurus (following a Germany-based license application), they were not immediately realized.
Furthermore, the bank is reportedly exploring stablecoin market entry options, including potential issuance or consortium participation. Deutsche Bank confirmed earlier this year that it is assessing tokenized deposit solutions for payment purposes.
Historical Context and Scope
Deutsche Bank’s interest in cryptocurrencies has grown significantly; the bank previously reported working with Bitpanda to enhance crypto payment capabilities since June 2024. Late last year (2023), unconfirmed reports suggested the bank was developing its own Ethereum layer-2 blockchain solution using ZKsync technology.
