Dubai-based airline Emirates has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com to integrate digital currency payments, aiming to meet evolving customer preferences and tap into tech-savvy markets. The official implementation is scheduled for 2026.

The announcement highlights Emirates’ previous interest in cryptocurrency payments, evidenced when the airline explored accepting Bitcoin via an earlier hint reported by Arab News.

Speaking at the announcement, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer Adnan Kazim emphasized the strategic goal: “Partnering with Crypto.com to integrate cryptocurrency into our digital payments system reflects Emirates’ commitment to meeting evolving customer preferences and tapping into younger, tech-savvy customer segments who prefer digital currencies.”

Details surrounding the specific cryptocurrencies accepted (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum) and the range of services covered (ticketing, baggage, other offerings) were not specified.

Crypto.com’s payment system facilitates transactions across more than 20 assets, including prominent cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, alongside traditional fiat currencies such as the US dollar (USD) and the euro (EUR). The platform currently supports approximately 4,000 merchants.

“As we continue to expand the everyday use case for crypto, integration with exceptional partners such as Emirates will bring real momentum to the digital asset industry and enable both companies to offer genuine innovative finance solutions for our customers,” stated Crypto.com President and COO Eric Anziani.

This development aligns with broader crypto industry efforts to achieve mainstream adoption. Earlier this month, Crypto.com signed another MoU with Dubai’s Department of Finance to facilitate digital currency payments for city government fees, mirroring Dubai’s overall digital strategy.

The collaboration also anticipates a promotional campaign to raise customer awareness preceding the launch.

Despite the significance of the deal, representatives from Emirates and Crypto.com were unavailable for comment shortly after the announcement.
