Solana Unveils Ambitious Roadmap to Become Global Internet Capital Markets Backbone by 2027
“Global Internet Capital Markets (ICMs)” are a key objective.
“Market microstructure” identified as the “single most important problem.”
The Solana Foundation has presented a detailed long-term roadmap committed to establishing the Solana blockchain as the foundational layer for global internet capital markets (ICMs) by 2027.
“Increasing bandwidth and reducing latency are necessary but insufficient. The third pillar must address market microstructures.”
Description of ICMs
ICMs, conceptualized by Solana co-founder Akshay, represent a globally accessible ledger enabling tokenization of entities, currencies, and cultures, offering universal access to capital markets via internet connectivity.
ACE Technology
The Solana team has consolidated on “Application-Controlled Execution (ACE)” as central to addressing market microstructure intricacies. ACE targets empowering smart contracts with “millisecond-level control” over transaction sequencing.
Key Roadmap Initiatives (2024)
- Q3 2024: Launch of Jito’s Block Assembly Marketplace (BAM).
- Q3 2024: Full launch of DoubleZero peer-to-peer fiber network (currently in testnet with ~3% stake).
- Increase block capacity via recent network upgrades to 60M compute units, with further capacity increases planned for 2025.
Targeting Market Microstructure
“Market microstructure is the single most important problem on Solana today,” the roadmap asserts. It explicitly differentiates ACE for “flexible, high-performance transaction environments” from traditional finance (TradFi).
