The Smarter Web Company Increases Bitcoin Holdings Amid Fundraising
[City, Company] – United Kingdom-based web design and marketing firm, The Smarter Web Company, announced an expansion of its Bitcoin treasury, acquiring an additional 230.05 BTC worth approximately £17.97 million ($24.7 million) at an average price of £78,103 ($107,126) per coin.
This brings the company’s total Bitcoin investment value to over $82.6 million, with its total Bitcoin holdings now reaching 773.58 BTC purchased at an average price of £78,022 ($107,015).
Part of Strategic Growth Plan
The acquisition is a component of Smarter Web’s ongoing “10 Year Plan,” a strategy introduced in April to foster transparent growth. This plan incorporates a Digital Assets Treasury Policy dedicated to Bitcoin accumulation, aiming to support “longer-term business value.”
The company maintains approximately £38 million ($52.3 million) available in cash for further Bitcoin investments.
Fundraising and Dilution Details
According to Tuesday’s filing, the company recently secured approximately £45 million ($62 million) through a series of subscriptions and accelerated bookbuilds. This fundraising resulted in a 9% dilution of existing shareholders’ stakes.
The filing also details current shareholdings: CEO Andrew Webley and his family hold approximately 11.3% of the company.
Bitcoin Integration
Smarter Web has been accepting Bitcoin as payment since 2023, believing “Bitcoin forms a core part of the future of the global financial system.” This practice complements the company’s stated “mission to build a better web.”
Context: UK Companies Increasingly Turning to Bitcoin
The filing highlights that the purchase occurs within a broader trend. UK-listed firms have been actively adding Bitcoin to their treasuries recently. Planning data indicates at least nine UK-listed companies (excluding Smarter Web itself) have either announced purchases or intend to do so.
This includes companies like Tao Alpha and others pursuing similar treasury diversification strategies into digital assets like Bitcoin.
