Cryptogamers Look for Scaling Success
Former Sky Mavis and Voodoo executive Quinn Campbell is joining Yield Guild Games (YGG) as a third-party publishing advisor, bringing expertise in testing and scaling game models.
- His role involves helping YGG Play determine if a single monetization model can succeed across diverse game formats.
- YGG is targeting “Casual Degens,” crypto-native players drawn to quick, rewarding gaming loops.
Campbell, speaking to Decrypt, dismisses the idea that any crypto game can become a guaranteed breakout hit, emphasizing volume and iteration as keys to success in gaming, which is inherently “hits-driven.” He highlighted the importance of observing success through repeated testing (“reps”) rather than prediction.
Campbell previously drove high prototype volumes (thousands annually) at his old companies, killing nearly all after limited testing, based solely on observed data. His mentorship aims to replicate this efficient, data-driven methodology within YGG’s publishing arm.
YGG Play is shifting focus from chasing individual breakout hits to building a systematic approach centered around reach and scalability. This aligns with their view of crypto’s mainstream audience: “Casual Degens,” players who aren’t necessarily traditional gamers or speculators, but will engage if experiences are fun, casual, and consistently rewarding.
YGG believes this model offers a clearer path to economic sustainability, aiming to identify and scale monetization patterns across multiple game formats and themes within this audience preference.
