Captain Laserhawk: Ubisoft Introduces NFT-Powered AI Governance
Ubisoft’s text-based blockchain game, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., now integrated with the top-down shooter, features AI agents linked to NFT-based characters (Niji Warriors) that possess governance capabilities.
Key Features
- **NFT-Linked AI Agents:** 10,000 unique Niji Warriors NFTs each have an autonomous AI agent.
- **Autonomous Governance:** Agents analyze proposals, cast votes on-chain, and log actions using LibertAI’s technology.
- **Human Control:** Players can interact with and override AI decisions.
- **Personalized Experience:** Agents initialized with persona traits based on NFT metadata and player history.
- **Decentralized Storytelling:** Player actions influence both gameplay and agent decisions.
- **Security:** Curated, censored AI models prevent inappropriate content generation.
- **Skill-Based Adaptation:** Game adjusts difficulty and dialogue based on player skill.
Developed in partnership with French AI firm LibertAI, the “governance simulator” component launched at ETHCC in Paris. Unlike the shooter, the text-based experience emphasizes decentralized narrative and AI-driven governance.
Technical Director Didier Genevois described it as an “experiment in AI governance.” AI agents make decisions using memory, context, and player history, with all actions logged transparently. However, players retain significant control and can intervene.
Jonathan Schemoul from LibertAI noted agents may govern the game world and influence future content unlocks based on player action. Ubisoft highlights the tension between AI autonomy and human control as central to the game’s design.
Safety measures ensure off-chain AI behavior only impacts an individual player’s experience, preventing cross-realm issues that plagued similar projects.
