FC Barcelona Embarks on Digital Transformation with New NFT Wallet
The renowned Spanish soccer club FC Barcelona, valued at $5.65 billion according to Forbes, is introducing “Barça.Pass,” a new wallet designed for NFTs as part of its strategic digital evolution.
This June release enables holders of over 11 million Barça IDs to mint FC Barcelona avatar NFTs, customize them with official merchandise, and collect digital assets in anticipation of an upcoming mobile racing game.
Technology infrastructure company Futureverse has spearheaded the development of Barça.Pass, utilizing the gaming-focused Root blockchain (EVM-compatible, XRP gas token) with the XLS-20 NFT standard. CEO Aaron McDonald emphasized the wallet’s capability to support a “wide range of onchain experiences and applications.”
Barça.Pass integrates Shopify for wearable purchases and facilitates trading on platforms like Tradeverse using cryptocurrencies ROOT or XRP.
While not merely a digital asset holder, the wallet platform enables FC Barcelona to expand its digital ecosystem and engage fans through emerging technologies.
FC Barcelona has previously explored digital ventures including mobile games, a discontinued minigame app, and a fan token (BAR) on Chiliz that has seen a significant market cap decline following its 2021 peak.

The club’s revitalized digital initiatives represent a continuation of its exploration into blockchain applications within sports fan engagement.
