Sugartown Launches New NFT Collection “Cores” on Abstract Blockchain
Sugartown, the now-independent “GameFi” platform formerly developed within Zynga, has launched its latest NFT collection, “Cores,” on the Abstract blockchain.
Zynga, the creator of mobile hits like FarmVille and Words With Friends, spun off Sugartown to startup D20 Labs last year. This move saw the crypto-focused team migrate to D20 Labs.
The New “Cores” NFT
Players can mint the Core NFTs for 0.069 ETH (approximately $175) each. These unique assets represent scientific tubes filled with an enigmatic liquid, existing on the Abstract blockchain.
According to Sugartown, owners of Cores will gain access to Abstract-based minigames, rewards, and potential token staking features, building upon the platform’s existing game portfolio.
Complex Minting Process
Access to the Core minting follows a distinct multi-phase structure prioritizing long-term supporters, NFT holders, and crypto-versed participants.
Cores Distribution Schedule
Mint Phase | Timing (ET) | Requirements & Mechanics |
---|---|---|
Free Mint | Today, 8 AM – 2 PM ET | Requires holding three (3) Ora NFTs in a single wallet. |
Cores Paid Phase | Today, 2 PM – 8 AM ET (tomorrow) | First: 1 Core for 0.069 ETH per Core. Increased Rate: +2 Cores per additional three (3) Ora held (cumulative). |
Allowlist Mint | Tomorrow, Tuesday, 12 PM – 1 PM ET | Targeted allocation for specific groups confirmed. |
Public Raffle | Tomorrow, Tuesday, 2 PM ET | No direct sale; chance-based access. |
Entry Deposit Mechanism | Final / Lottery Stage | Purchase “entries” for a chance to mint; unused entries refunded. |
The restricted access mechanism has been noted as potentially limiting entry for casual players while favoring experienced crypto participants.
The Sugartown website itself is token-gated, providing further limitations on general public access. Ora holders, however, can bypass these gateways.
Platform Context
Sugartown functions as a GameFi platform integrating blockchain technology with gaming. Advisor Bharat Krymo acknowledged the inherent “gambling element” inherent in many blockchain games during recent discussions.
Co-founder Tommy Ngo, who established Sugartown while at Zynga and launched it with D20 Labs, intends for Core holders to experience tangible benefits and rewards for their long-term engagement.
A standard disclaimer within Sugar-town’s community explicitly states its NFTs are “not an investment product,” offering cautionary perspective.
Game Portfolio
Key components of the Sugartown offering include various minigames accessible via wallet connection:
- Cryptocurrency-themed “social casino” games
- Poker
- “Hypercasual” fast-paced mini-games
Abstract Labs’ co-inventor Michael Lee previously confirmed five total games are planned for launch. Furthermore, a future playable token “WIN” has been promised.
Abstract is positioned as an Ethereum Layer 2 chain aimed at new users.
